“…” Huo Chen’s bloodshot eyes said a lot about his mental state.
Yang Yi sighed, “You lost your bet.
Wen He did not get convinced by you.
She got to the conference early in the morning and by now the conference should have ended.” He then beckoned to his subordinate to bring him the laptop.

He opened it and tapped a few times to reach for his mailbox.
With a gentle press of the ENTER key, “My man has sent it to me.
Video of the conference this morning, have a look yourself.”

“…” Huo Chen took the laptop and sluggishly sat down like a mud golem.
He was dead and was expressionless with a lighted cigarette trembling on his lips.

In the midst of silence, the announcement was heard through the speakers of the laptop as Wen He was getting introduced into the scene.

“Miss Wen, are you really a member of a former terrorist group?”

“Miss Wen, are you associated with General Huo the way the media has portrayed online?” The reporters anticipated her reply as all of them were holding either a recorder, a camera or a notebook with a pen.

“I was indeed once a member of the organization but I quit a long time ago.
Huo Chen and I are truly husband and wife the whole time, even though I have to admit that he hardly knew about my identity before.
I had approached him, seduced him and made him fall in love with me.
My motive? I just wanted an amnesty, that’s all.” Her voice was calm and cold like an iceberg as she stood staring into the reporters on the floor with no light in her eyes.

The confession got the reporters worked up.

“Since you have stated that you initiated the relationship, what has General Huo decided to after this? Will you two stay together?”

Towards the critical question, Wen He smiled briefly, “Well, what do you think?” She beamed at the inquiring reporter, “What’s the chance of that? He might be in love with me but I’ve never loved him.
I have my own agenda to fulfill.
Now that the truth has been revealed, he might be able to accept who I am but he probably could never accept what we are.
An unrequited love is foolish.
Therefore, I’m filing a divorce.”

That was when Yang Yi rushed into the scene, blocked her away from the mics, “What Miss Wen said just now is not what has been arranged.
I did not request her to bring all responsibilities to herself.
I just wanted her to clarify the relationship.”

Yes, sir.
I know, I know this is not what you wrote on the script but if I only stated that Huo Chen was unaware of my identity, the public would still criticize. 

People would think that Huo Chen chose his career over a woman who loves him, no matter how much sense it makes.

Now, I have packaged myself as a woman who manipulated a military general into her benefits.
It would make perfect sense for Huo Chen to ditch me.

He might even win over some pity. 

I mean, no one would turn a blind eye to a simple, military serviceman who got used by a woman whose aim was only the amnesty, right?

This is it.
Huo Chen, that’s all I can do. 

Huo Chen somehow could interpret her thoughts as she closed her eyes behind Yang Yi in silence as the reporters swarmed upon the table.
And because of that, his expression grew grave.

Yang Yi walked towards the man, “So what even if she did a lot for you? She still doesn’t trust you.
I understand that feeling as a man too, you know.”

I’ve been spending the past two days trying to get this stubborn man into a divorce.

Nothing has worked.
Gifts, threats, chicken soup advice, pleas.
Never once I saw Huo Chen nodding his head at the offer.

And then we did a gamble yesterday.

We had our terms and conditions.

If Wen He believed him, he would win.
Else, he loses everything.

Yang Yi watched the handsome man snickering on the chair.
Huo Chen remembered the glass of water Wen He brought him the night before.

It was a sweet nothing.

He betted everything in his life yet she made him lose everything.

“Hah!” Huo Chen snorted and tipped the ashes away from his cigarette.

He closed his eyes, “I’ll accept my defeat.
Do anything to me as you wish, sir.”
