The original owner and Liu Chunfang were still pretty neutral.
A major conflict didn’t occur between them, but there were still smaller problems.

When talking about marriage that year, someone first introduced Liu Chunfang.

Liu Chunfang was the literal daughter of the village.
She looked very frail and gentle, seemingly very silent and ladylike.

She herself was quite happy about the idea, but Old Lady Han felt that she was not strong and didn’t seem that easy to take care of.
There was also another obscure reason— the elders were power freaks.
Old Lady Han was not someone who was known to be benevolent or kind, but Yu Wuzi was not exactly the nicest elder there was either.
These two would definitely argue frequently about rights and authorities.

Even if there were no major conflicts among the villagers, there were still small frictions, let alone the fact that they already disliked each other as in-laws.

And Yu Haozi also disliked the fact that Han Qingsong was a soldier.
At that time, it was considered dangerous and it was not popular in the army.
A husband who wasn’t home all year round would leave the wife alone for so long, so there was a high possibility that things between them could end at any time.
In addition, to have a mother-in-law like Old Lady Han was just asking her daughter to suffer.
Hence, the family did not agree to the marriage.

So things didn’t work out and Han Qingsong married Lin Lan.
Liu Chunfang married a young man in the village and everyone lived in peace.

But the original owner always suspected that Liu Chunfang was dishonest.
She always felt that she looked quiet and kind, but it didn’t seem to be her real persona.

Otherwise, why wasn’t she able to meet him often? And why would Han Qingsong always bump into Liu Chunfang everytime he returned home?

It was rare for him to come back,so he only did so annually or once every two years.
Besides, his return would only last one or two days at a time, three or four days at most, so how could it be so coincidental?

In addition, if Liu Chunfang worked together with the original owner, she would always stare at her and when they spoke, her words made Lin Lan back then rather uncomfortable.

The original owner believed that Liu Chunfang sewed discord, spoke ill of her, and scolded her several times behind her back.
In the end, her reputation in the village was getting worse and worse.

Later, when she was pregnant with Xiaowang, the village held a denunciation meeting.
The original owner took the opportunity to call out Liu Chunfang, saying that she wasn’t as pure as everyone thought and exposed the fact that she was the one fanning the flames of the rumours.
Liu Chunfang naturally refused to admit it, claiming that the shrew was once again spouting nonsense.

The two fought.

Although Liu Chunfang looked weak, she had a lot of strength.
She kicked the original owner’s stomach, making her fall and causing Xiaowang to be delivered prematurely.

After delivering prematurely, she got jaundice, which injured her eyes.

According to the plot that Lin Lan knew, Liu Chunfang did have a plan.

The husband she married was an ordinary peasant but he was also sullen and introverted.
Like other men, he made it a manly point not to gossip or interact with his wife.
He would hang out with men all day long, ignoring his wife and children.

She felt aggrieved and angry, feeling that if she had married Han Qingsong, things would have definitely been different.
Hence,  she didn’t like seeing the original owner and would pull some tricks whenever she couldn’t control her dissatisfaction.

For example, the original owner heard a lot of rumours, such as Han Qingsong getting divorced, Han Qingsong looking down on Lin Lan, etc.
In fact, Liu Chunfang constantly got some news from the demobilised military men that came back but Han Qingsong didn’t even know who Liu chunfang was.
