Data.153 – Old Bowman, Skill Evolution

You could acquire skills by using items.
And you could also acquire them through fulfilling special requirements.
And these skills could then be evolved through the use of items.

There were also some skills that evolved on their own as you used them, such as Bow Arts.
But in general, most skills would not evolve without the player doing something.
Through my adventures, I had acquired some of the required items for evolution.
At the same time, I had also succeeded in getting items that would give me new skills.

The first new skill was Flash Arrow.
You could acquire this skill by using the Ultra Flash Mushroom item, which was created through collecting a lot of Flash Mushrooms in the Riboribo Forest.

Shoot an arrow that unleashes a strong flash upon landing.

In other words, it was a stun grenade.
I could use it during PvP to blind an enemy and ambush them or run away.
It should have many uses.
Of course, it still did no damage, so one shouldn’t get too confident with it.

The second skill was ‘Heat Ray Eyes.’
I acquired it through using the ‘Light Focus’ item that the Eyebeam Monkey had dropped in the Riboribo forest.

Yes, eye beams!
It sounded like a joke, but it could be an important method of attack if you lost your arms and legs.
And I could also use it while holding my bow, so it was definitely something that was important.

It was kind of like a robot’s vulcan cannon.
A lot of them had vulcan cannons attached to their heads, even if they specialized in hand to hand combat and didn’t hold any ranged weapons.
And so even if I specialized in a bow, I should still be able to shoot beams from my eyes.
The damage wasn’t too great, and so it would hardly be the deciding factor in a battle, which was another thing it had in common with the vulcan cannon.

Now, it was time to look at how my old skills had evolved.
The first was…one of my primary skills, Burning Arrow.
It had evolved into Inferno Arrow!
The item that I used was ‘Hellfire Rage Hair’ from the boss baboon in the Riboribo Forest!

Unleash an arrow that burns with the flames of hell.
Creates small explosions upon impact.

It was the same description as before, only now ‘hell’ had been added.
It also did more damage, and the fire was a little darker.
Otherwise, it was used exactly the same way.
And so I would be able to continue using it like before.

The second skill was…Drill Arrow.
It had evolved into Drill Arrow Kai.
The item that I used was ‘Destruction Drill,’ which one of the weapons from the Machine God Windhole had dropped.

[Drill Arrow Kai]
Unleashes an arrow whose head rotates like a drill.
Spins faster and deals more damage compared to before.
Effective against rock and machine type monsters.

So it was the same skill, only more powerful.
The type of monsters that it was effective against was also the same.

However, the next skill had changed quite a lot.
And…in a fairly good direction too.

Your Range is tripled if you stay still for over 15 seconds.

The skill that I acquired when I first started the game had now evolved…!
The item that I used for evolution was ‘Sniping Nucleated Cell,’ which was from the Slipers in the Riboribo forest.

Previously, the text had said ‘Your Range is tripled if you stay still for over 30 seconds.
If you attack while in this state, you will not be able to move for the next 30 seconds.’
Not only did I have to stay still for 30 seconds to activate it, but I would have to stay still for another 30 seconds afterwards, which is quite a big weakness.

Still, the ability to triple my Range was very appealing, and I had used it quite a lot early on.
But recently, I had no trouble targeting enemies without the boost in Range, and so I had fewer opportunities to use it.
There was also the fact that enemies were stronger, and there weren’t many situations where I could stay still for that long.

But now that it was the ‘Shin’ version, the demerits were completely gone…!
I could move more like a sniper who shoots and then runs in order to change positions.

Furthermore, the required 30 second wait time had been shortened to 15 seconds, which made it a lot easier to use.
The increased Range was still the same, but I would rather it be like this, than x5 or x10 and have the same restrictions as before.

I had not thought that one of my oldest skills would suddenly become my most powerful at this point.
If it was a party battle, then there may be moments where I could stay still for 15 seconds.
And so I would put it to good use…!

I almost felt emotional when looking at it…
The list of skills represented all of my adventures up until now.
Furthermore, there were also weapon skills and charge attacks from my equipment, and the miracle effects from items and medals.
It made me feel very strong, but perhaps that was arrogant.
I needed to become much stronger…

Ah, that’s right.
There was also a big change in the Bow Arts skill, which always evolved on its own.
Bow Arts was now Ultra Bow Arts.

There were 13 levels for Bow Arts, but after that, the number was reset and you started at 1 with Ultra Bow Arts.

“…What should I do now…”

There was still my bow and Garbow’s equipment left, but it would take more time for those to be finished.
And the announcement broadcast for the 1st NSO Strongest Party Tournament was now a few days away.
Well, I would do what I always do.
Go on an adventure.

And so I left the sky town and went out towards a new field.
In search of a new power.
